The last post!

Well here we are at the end of my blogging career, i can`t say im too disapointed. For my final blog entry i`ve decided to discuss the story `` to set this house in order``. There are alot of elements to this story but i guess thats what makes the story more compelling to read. The two main characters are Venessa the grand daughter and Grandmother Maclead. The other minor character would have to be venessas mother and father. The setting in this story tell us a lot of things about Grandmother Maclead. Her home is described as old , stale, flawless and when Venessa was in this house she felt alienated. Venassa and her Grandmother didnt have a relationship that most people have with their grandparents. Grandmother Maclead is very small in stature but she was very loud, stern and comanding. Not exactly your typical cute kind hearted Grandmother. Grandmother Maclead showed very little emotion she had a steel spine byt she was physically fragile. Her moto was "God loves order" she also wasn't much into slang she was very proper and perfecional. Vanessa never knew why her grandmother always acted this way, as the story goes on we un foil the reason why. Grandma Maclead lost a son, his name was Rob it was Vanessa's fathers brother. Vanessa's mother was in labour with a baby boy, once the baby was born the grandmother wanted them to name him Rob .  Ewen Vanessa's father refuses because there was always a possibility that Rob had commit suiside , he did not live a happy life, they didnt want to name their new born child after someone like him.

Eveline

I  believe this is blog # 9 , almost done! The story Eveline is a very relateable story.  Its about a woman who wishes for more excitement in her life. I think at one point we all want a little more excitement in our lives, we want to try something new before it's too late. She lived at home with her family her whole life but times where different now  her siblings have grown up and moved away and her mother died , it was only her and her father left in the house. Her father was somewhat of an abusive man, he didnt want Eveline to leave this obviously made her feel trapped by her surroundings. Everyday she thought about leaving, her and her boyfriend Frank would run away together and live a happy life. Frank represented the freedom and excitement thats she has always longed for. Frank would be the one who saves her. Eveline much like the woman in the poem "the woman in this poem" share common intrests and they both know that their time is running out. In the end Eveline can't find it in herself to leave. Before her mother died she had made a promise to her that she would take care of her home . This was a very selfless decision on Evelines part. Even though it was Evelines greatest wish to leave and start her knew life she honored her commitment to her mother. Evelines selflessness is deffinatly something I admire. Eveline also finds it h ard to leave her home because she has lived there her whole life. Its her home and it filled with so many memories, good and bad. I can deffinatly relate to Eveline in this sense. I decided to do my first year of university here in my home town because i just can't picture myself leaving home yet. I feel like i wouldn't beable to survive on my own I knew i would miss my family and the feeling or home way too  much. I really have no idea what im going to do next year when I have no other option but leave.

Stones!

Stones is accually a great story. I'm accually thinking about using this story for my research paper, just because this story holds so much history and reality. This story is  based on war and it's effects on those who witness it and live through it. This story talks about a biy who see the effects or war had on his  father. He seen too much as  a child, he grew up too fast. Its amazing how much the war  and war experiences can change you completely. Some men go to war one person and they come back a completly different person.I can only imagine the pain their family go through its like steping on egg shells like mentioned in the story. When a family member come back suffering from this disease its almost just as bad as loosing a loved one. I wish i had more to comment about on this topid but Im lucky enough not to know much about this subject. I basically only obtaines the little knowledge I know from the movie "Brother" wich has the same kind of idea. Its about a husband/ father who was a soldier in iraq. He seen and did unspeakable things while he was away. When he returned home he was so different and angry all the time that his family was almost torn apart and this lead to him trying to commit suiside. It was a sad story but luckily it all worked out for them in the end sadly it doesn't work out that way for all victims. The movie Brother was deffinatly one of my favorite movies and not only because my future husband Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the main characters!!!

Boy and Girls

So i've decided to take a different path in life and start blogging about short stories instead of poems, not that stort stories are any better or more interesting but I just cam't take another poem! This one is intitled boys "Boys and Girls". When I think back, its amazing how many poems and stories i accually enjoyed, this story included. At first when I read this story the tittle made absolutly no sense to me at all, as i got closer to the end all the elements came together. Much like the poem "The woman in this poem" the protagonist doesn't have a name, she is just called "that girl". The fact that she doesn't have a name represents the role she plays in a mans world. Setting plays a mojor role in this story, it takes place on a fox farm. This girls father farmed foxes for their fur. the foxes where always kept in pins and cages they have lived the life that the father has made for them. When the foxes were freed from the pins they were releised out in the field were they where killed. The foxes didn't survive outside of the farm, the young girl felt the same way she couldn't imagine what life was like outside the farm and she felt that she wouldn't survive outside her comfort zone. This young girl loves helping her father with the foxes and she typically took on jobs that young girls normally wouldn't do, jobs that would be considered manly jobs. She was always trying to prove herself in a mans world, in return she was refered to as "just a girl".  Her lack of name could represent her lack of worth in a mans world.  People beleived that a girl would serve more purpose in the kitchen.  Now days we see less and less of this behavior but there are obviously still people out there who beleive that woman can't do everything a man can do. The truth is woman CAN do everything a man can do and sometimes even better!!!

The Woman in this poem!

This story is called "The woman in this poem", deffinatly not the most creative title. The poem on the other hand happens to be a lot more creative. This poem could describe the lives of many woman who want more in their lives.  The nameless woman in this poem appears to have an ideal life, she has everything that most people could only dream about. She is a mother who lives in a nice home with a loving husband. Some people may wonder what else she could be looking for. On the outside this life may seem perfect, but this woman struggles with internal conflict. This woman has a secret, as she waits for her family to come home all she wants to do is leave. Pick up the phone call her lover and take off with him. She wishes for something new and more excitment in her life.  The diction used through out this story reallys aids in the understanding of the womans feelings. When they describe her kitchen as being spotless it could represent the emptiness she feels in her life, its also described as perfectly clean the word perfect could represent her so called perfect life. This woman is realizing that she doesnt have much time left to leave and live her life the way she has always wanted too. As she stands there in the middle of her spottless kitchen we can see her growing old. She feels trapped by the life she is living, its just so predictable. The overall tone of this story is sadness and possible theme is private vs public. She live s two different lives a private life with her lover and the public life with her family. Its possible that some poeple may find this kind of behavior selfish and possibly greedy and others may beable to relate to this woman. Every year more and more people get divorsed because they aren't truely happy, life is only short you and when your time is up you don't get a second chance to do the things should have or could have done. You only get one shot so in my opinion do what makes you happy and live the way you want to live, never wait for it to be too late like the woman in this poem....

.... Spotless kitchen.

My Mistress' Eyes are nothing like the Sun.

This poem is a poem written by the one and only William Shakespeare. Usually Shakespeare's writting is harder to read but i didn't find this peom all that mind boggling. Its a fairly simple poem about love. When you first read this poem it is very easy to get the wrong idea about what the peom is truely about. If someone claimed they loved me, I would expect them to at least say nice things about me. I mean I woulds be pretty insulted and embarrassed if some said "And in some perfumes there is more delight/ Than in the breath that from my Mistress reeks." It seems he has nothin  good to say about his mistress for example: "Coral is far more red then her lips read" this couls imply that she has the opposite wich would be pale lifeless lips. "if hair be wires, black wires grow on her head." These are not the kind of complements a woman want to hear. After heading all these ugly descriptions about his mistress, its hard to beleive that this is the woman he loves. Finally at the end of the poem the theme of love really shines through. It turns out that this really is just an ordinary woman, there is nothing all that special about her but thats what he loves about her. This man loves her for who she is and not what she looks like. She isn't perfect but most woman if not all woman aren't. I beleive that more people should love eachother this way. Looks are only what grabs a persons attention but its the personality that keeps them around. Looks also don't last forever, it's important that you love someone for who they are if you do that your love should never fade. If you claim to love someone for all the wrong reasons there is a great chance that the love you have will not last.

Eleanor Rigby!

Its a cold sunday night and there is not really much to do, so i figures its a perfect time to do another blog entry or two, or seven!! Considering I need ten completed by next monday! The ballad Eleanor Rigby was a peom we read that was honestly not bad. For one it was written by members of the beatles and they also turned it into a catchy tune. Also I usued to have a babysitter named Eleanor, I'm not really sure why she comes to mind when reading this poem because there is not resemblance what so ever between my old babysitter and the Eleanor in this poem, it must just be the name. I don't think anyone would want to told they resemble Eleanor Rigby, i mean is someone said that to me i would feel insulted! Poor Eleanor is discribed as a very lonely woman, she acccually has a very sad life. The complete done of poem is sad. Eleanor is a woman who works at a church with father Mckenzie. In one part of the poem it describes Eleanor picking up rice after a wedding, she always dreamed of her own wedding and her own happiness but these dreams were never met. When Eleanor dies no one attends her funeral. Father Mckenzie was also another lonly character in this tragic story. Him and Eleanor woked together in the same church yet they didnt have any sort or relationship or even a friendship. Father Mckenzie writes the words to a serman that no one would hear. The world "lonely" is repeated numerous times through out the whole poem just to emphasize just how alone these characters really are, they both live alone and Eleanor dies alone. Sadly once again this poem is about death and it is quite depressing, reading these poems kind of make you feel good about your own life. This poem in particular makes me feel thankful for my friends and family. I know as long as i have them I will never live a sad lonely life, like that of Eleanor Rigby.

Sitting

A simple title or a simple poem! This is not some  long and complex poem, i think thats why i like it. Its very peaceful. When i read this poem i think of my favorite place to be wich is on the edge of what is called the mill river wich is located in a small town in newfoundland called Pointleamington. I could sit there forever and just be at total peace with the world. "receiveng"accepting understanding nature. Sitting by oneself is a way to understand the complex beautiul world. It describes the feeling of nothingness. The poem mentions that when you are sitting you are only remotely human i understand this feeling because when i sit next to the river you feel like you are at one with nature and everything around me. Its amazing how content you can be even though you are doing absolutly nothing but "sitting" The are so many beautiful this around us that we don't notice on a day to day basis. Sometimes its feels so refreshing and almost self clensing to just stop and take a while to admire the good things in life, it really does the body good. Visiting the Mill river isnt something that i get to do everyday so when i get a chance to just sit there i like to take it all in. Now all i need is the momory and the feeling of nothingness to sometimes get me through my day!

Blogging isn't as bad as i thought!

So this is my second blog! I wasn't too excited when our english teacher told us that we would be graded based on our blog enteries, mainly because im not exactly good with computer and figuring out how to use all their programs,I couldn't even make my own facebook account how sad is that. It turns out that blogging isn't as stressful as I thought it would be! I wasn't lying in my first blog when I mentioned that the poems we discuss in class are for the most part all about death. "My Son my Executioner" also shares the ever so popular theme of death but in a more unique way. This peom really made me think differently about life and death in a way this peom was kind of depressing. The poem is about a father who sees his new born baby for the fist time, most people would think that this would be the happiest and most precious moment in a parents life! You probably wouldn't think a parents first reference to their new born would be "instrument of immortality"! Even the title referse to this baby boy as an "executioner". Clearly whe can't take these statments literaly, i mean a new born baby cannot be an intrument of imortality, nor can it execute people. This is what i ment by this poem makes you think, instead of taking poem literaly you have to think about the abstract meaning. For example this poem isnt about a killer baby its about the circle of life. When one is born, another dies. Everyday as this baby growns bigger and older the father is pushed closer and closer towards old age and death. Although the thought of new life would ignite feelings of excitment the over all tone of this poem is "sad", most likely because the poem is being written from the point of view of the father.  Although this father know what is to come, he still knows that apart of him will always live on in his son.... and the circle of life strikes again just like the movie "The Lion King' !!

Thoughts on an english poem!

So far in english this year we have read and studied many different styles of poems. Most of these poems shared the similar theme of death! Death may seem like such a depressing topic. When some people think of death, darkness and sadness may come to mind and its not exactly something that a lot of people enjoy reading about. I on the other hand enjoy reading these types of poem, not because im sick and twisted and love the idea of death but because i like to understand different view points on this subject. Death is something that no one really knows much about, and you dont know how you will react to it until the day comes. Some people embrace it while others will fight against it till the end. The poem "Do not go Gentle Into That Good Night" is a good representation on fighting against deth. The title alone gives you a good idea of how this person views death." Do not go gentle" for example, this to me means put up a fight! The sentence "rage, rage against the dying of the light" is also repeated multiple time through out the poem, this really emphasizes how badly he wants to fight for his life! There were other peoms that had diferent thoughts about death like i mentioned before these poems thought of death as a possitive experience and that you should embrace it and let nature take it corse. I strongly beleive you should fight until your last breath.Life is a beautiful thing and you only get to live it once. Life is ment to be appreciated and  you sould enjoy every last minute of it! I mean i do understand the idea of embrassing dreath and preparing yourself but i dont think you can ever be truely prepared. When my time comes wich i hope is a long long time from now, i can garantee you i will not go gentle into that good night!!!
