Procrastination!

Procrastination is one of my biggest struggles, I wasn't always cursed with this dreadful trait it seems i have developed it over the years. In the world of psychology procrastination refers to the act of replacing high priority actions with tasks of low priority. In other words putting things that you want to do before the things that are important and need to be done. Procrastination may seem like an easy thing to fix but i assure you it is not! Its almost like a disease that gets worse and worse over time. Its starts off by putting things off for an hour or two then a day or two, eventually you will be putting things off and avoiding important tasks for weeks! Our bodies do not prefer negative emotions and we do not deal with stress all that well so putting off a stressful task for a later date can actually be enjoyable. Its is so much easier to tell yourself you will get to that later or i'll do that tomorrow. There is always a nagging voice in my head telling me what needs to be done but I always some how convince that voice that things can be done later. Thinking about doing things later brings me great sense of relief and peace of mind... but "later " comes a lot sooner then you think. Once the later date becomes the latest possible date, thats when stress hits its highest peak. Sometime this sudden rush of stress can actually motivate you to get things done and some people much like myself find themselves working better under pressure. When I know I have a week to fulfil a task my mind thinks I have all the time in the world so I am in no rush to get anything done. Here are some tips to help one overcome the horrible curse of procrastination: prioritize the tasks that cause you to procrastinate,  stop giving yourself excuses to procrastinate, organize thoughts and actions and keep them on track, make yourself a schedule or check list and and make sure you follow through. Procrastination is a serious issue the best thing to do is nip it in the bud as soon as possible because procrastination surly doesn't procrastinate!

  1. This is great! Last semester I was the worst procrastinator, three days to do my research paper and two to do my blogs. All my assignments and studying were done the day before. I can tell you one thing though, I'm definately not like you! I fixed my procrastiation, kind of, and tried to get things done earlier, kind of. I still had two blogs not done on the due date (done now) and the research paper is... coming along.. and it's due in six days... I still have to write it though haha.
